Our Projects
A large inventory (over $1M) was contaminated by smoky volatiles arising from a structure fire. After cleaning was performed by a professional garment restorer, the insured claimed that smoke odour was still notable on the garments and began a legal process to compel the insurer to pay out the full value of the garments. MBC Group’s laboratory was contracted to determine whether the insured’s claim had any validity by determining whether any residual fire volatiles were still present on the garments. Our laboratory developed a representative sampling strategy, attended the site to perform representative subsampling of the inventory with full forensic documentation, conducted a trace evidence recovery of any post-restoration volatiles present on the garments, and reported on whether any smoke volatiles were still present. Our investigation demonstrated that restoration had been successful, and provided the necessary forensic documentation to meet the expectations of the judiciary.
